Welcome to Mrs. Walter's 4th Grade Class!
“The day I stop learning is the day I stop breathing.” I have always had a passion for learning and it is this passion that drives me to share it with others. Learning through others, about others, hands on experiences, life experiences, how the world works, one’s place within the world, and how academics fits within the real world begins in the classroom, but does not end there. The classroom is the starting point. Therefore, it is my belief that students should obtain knowledge through a variety of means. When you enter my classroom it is my goal that you will see students learning by various methods in addition to the content necessary for student success. Such examples include independent work to become self-driven learners, collaborative work with peers to be able to learn with and through others, hands-on activities to learn to apply what is being learned, discussions to develop deep thinking, and projects to help develop higher-level thinking skills.

A bit about Mrs. Walter...
My name is Mary-Kate Walter. I graduated from Elizabethtown College with a B.S. degree in elementary education. I then went on to continue my education and earned my M.Ed. degree from Penn State University in Teaching and Curriculum along with my Reading Specialist certification. Most recently I have taken some courses at Kutztown University to learn about instructional technology in a classroom. I have taught fourth, fifth, sixth, and third grades in addition to substituting K through fifth grades. This is my second year teaching fourth grade at the Allentown Arts Academy Charter School. When I am not teaching or learning in a classroom I am busy with my three children. They keep me busy, but when I have rare time to myself I enjoy reading, dancing, nature strolls, listening to various genres of music, and watching a wide array of movies. Several activities which I plan to endeavor in the future are learning how to country line dance, salsa, and learn other forms of dance. Music and dance are food for the soul. This is why I am very excited to be teaching and learning with your students at a school for the arts!
